Can drinking at least one glass of low sodium vegetable juice daily help you achieve better weight loss results? Studies conducted at the Baylor College of Medicine and presented recently at Experimental Biology Meeting, gives an affirmative response.

The research report found that participants who drank at least 8 ounces of low sodium vegetable juice as part of a calorie-controlled DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) lost 4 pounds over 12 weeks, but those who followed the same diet diet but drank no juice lost less.

DASH is a diet programme that emphasizes eating lean meat, lower fat dairy, whole grains, vegetables and fruits daily and more importantly keeping saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium in check. Its primary aims is to achieve a positive metabolic outcome.

Metabolic syndrome is defined by a cluster of of risk factors that includes excess body fat in the midsection, high blood pressure, high blood and abnormal blood lipids. Left unchecked, it will increase the risk for chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke or diabetes. An estimate 47 million Americans have some combination of these risk factors and are often overweight or obese as well.

To reverse the order of a negative metabolic syndrome, patients are guided on how to strike the correct balance between their diet and body weight. Getting a right balance will allow the patients to reverse the course of a negative metabolic syndrome and avert the risks of heart disease, stroke or diabetes.

What the study has been able to show is that by taking simple, proactive and disciplined steps such as drinking low sodium vegetable juice while watching calorie intake, patients can control their weight and reduce the risk of long term health implications.

The study also reported that vegetable juice drinkers were able to significantly increase their intake of vitamin C and potassium, at the same time decrease their overall carbohydrate intake.This is a significant step in obtaining a successful healthy weight loss.
